As summer approaches, many people are finalizing their summer travel plans. The weather is getting much nicer and you can’t wait to take time off of work to go somewhere new or get out and enjoy the sunshine. However, summer travel can be stressful, especially when plenty of other people are having the same idea as you. You’ll encounter lots of people at the most popular travel destinations and can run into travel issues with traffic. In order to make the most of your summer vacation, here are some tips to make your travel as stress-free as possible.

Familiarize yourself with the route

Whether you’re driving, taking the train, or flying somewhere, it’s important to know what you’re doing and where you’re going. Make sure you know the times of your train and flight, have the confirmation numbers at your disposal, and have all other details in place. If you’re driving, take a look at your route ahead of time and develop a general idea of where you’re going in case your GPS would stop working.

Give yourself plenty of time

If you’re trying to get somewhere by a specific time, whether to make a flight, for a hotel check-in, or some other reason, give yourself extra time to be where you need to be. You never know what could arise; there could be an accident on the road or delays in travel. While some issues are out of your control, giving yourself time to get to your destination eases stress during travel.

Double check the details

Even if you think you know exactly where you’re going and when, it’s never a bad idea to double check the details of your travel. Take another look at your ticket confirmations, look over your route, and make sure your hotel or Airbnb reservations are in order.

Pack ahead of time

Waiting until the last minute to pack is one of the biggest causes of stress during travel. If you pack well ahead of time, you’ll be relaxed and do not have to worry about last minute packing the morning of your trip. Make a list a few days or a week or two ahead of time of everything you need to pack, then make sure it all fits in your bag. While traveling, try to stay as organized as possible so repacking isn’t stressful either.

Be well-prepared
You never know what you could need while you’re traveling, so be prepared. While you do not want to overpack, check the weather ahead of time and plan for it. It’s also a good idea to have a few snacks with you and plenty of water, especially if you’re going on a long car ride. Also bring a book or other activities for children to keep them occupied during travel.
